Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

I used various techniques to address a specific audience. One of the main ways was the use of sound. Throughout my OTS, the use of dramatic/ eerie music will attract the audience as it invokes anticipation. The audience will wonder what's about to happen as the music plays, and as it goes silent. Following this the loud bang of a gunshot will entice the audience into wondering what has just happened. As no one is shown being shot, the sound alone will attract curiousness. Although the sound alone is a major part in attracting my audience, the colours I used are also play a large role in addressing a specific audience. The use of red as the sole colour on the female protagonist is addressing a feminine audience, and allowing them to connect with this character. As the male character shown doesn't have any colour specifically on him, the audience is subtly reminded which character is dominant throughout. Overall, the whole neo-noir style of my OTS will address a very specific audience as it only caters for a niche group. It may show signs of a thriller, or crime drama but as it is based solely on a noir look, I am looking for a specific audience, and by applying this style to my OTS I am addressing only this audience. I believe that from the first second of my OTS I am attracting my audience as it starts with various body shots and seemingly normal activities until a gun is shown. This will automatically attract an audience as it signifies danger. Danger will in turn cause confusion and allow the audience to question my characters, thus becoming engaged on a personal level with them.
In order to appeal to our main audience of late teenagers/young adults, constructed a focus group in order for them to give constructive criticism and their own opinions on our first cut of our Opening Title Sequence. In order to improve our first cut we listened back and refered back to this video on the feedback given; this would attract our audience and by using focus groups addresses the audience from their feedback.
I have constructed a video of the technologies I have used throughout making my product. Although I did not learn a vast amount of techniques through my production I can identify as to why we used this equipment and how we used this to produce a high quality product for our audience. In the video I have included all the equipment I have used from pre-production through to post production and included some of the skills I have learnt and incorporated in the process of constructing my product.
